A "normal" WAV file has to be converted before it can be played on your phone. Download this program to convert WAVs into the right format. If you have any problems with the program, reading the readme file should help.
You can set WAVs as ringtones just as you would with MIDIs.
->MP3
This is a frequently asked question indeed! Get a converter from MP3 to WAV, like CDex (which is free, and then follow the method described under WAV playing with that WAV. You can't play MP3s directly (or set them as a ringtone) on x65 phones.
->Firmware updating
FW updates can only be done with the cables DCA-500 and DCA-510. It can not be done with DCA-540, IrDA or BT . You can get FW updates at Siemens' website, find your phone in the "Product Quickfinder", and click this button:
If you are using the DCA-510, remember to turn off the charging! Also, remember to turn off PIN control (Menu ->Setup ->Security ->PIN codes ->PIN control).
You can install any variant you want on your phone, but if you want the same menu languages, download the variant you currently have on your phone. To find out which variant to download, read "Checking your current firmware version", and find the heading "Variant" instead of "SW-Version". Alternatively, see the sticker just above your SIM card. Enter the code *#06# (star-hash-zero-six-hash) as if you were dialing a phone number on your phone, your IMEI number should now appear, press "More" once, and find the heading "SW-Version".
->Installing themes
When you download a theme to your computer, make sure the extension of the file is SDT. If it has a ZIP (or any other) extension, you must rename the file to e.g. 'theme.sdt' before transfering it to your phone.
->Communication with PC
With cable (skip step 1 if you are using IrDA)
1. Get the appropriate driver for your cable if you haven't done so already.
DCA-500 - Doesn't use drivers.
DCA-510 - Driver download.
DCA-540 - Driver download.
2. Get MPM (Mobile Phone Explorer) for your phone at Siemens' website. Find your phone in the "Product Quickfinder" (top right corner), then find the link "Service Downloads", you should find MPM there.
PS:
If you have problems with MPM, try turning your phone on and off, it has been reported to help for a lot of people!
->Checking how much your phone has been used
Enter the code *#05# (star-hash-zero-five-hash) as if you were dialing a phone number on your phone, a window showing operating and talk time should now appear.
PS:
If you install a new FW on your phone, this counter will be reset.
->Removing the operator logo
This trick work on most phones.
1. Download this transparent logo to your phone (by cable, IrDA or WAP).
2.Open the logo on your phone and Options ->Set as... ->Logo.
->Dusty camera lens
Grab a Q-tip, and clean the lens with circular movements. Don't apply too much pressure, and don't use any water/soap!

All Siemens phones from the x55 series and upwards share the same connector, it's called "Slim Lumberg" (the connector for the <-x50 series was called "Lumberg"). Here's the pinout:
->Installing Java programs via cable, IrDA or Bluetooth
1. Install the cable driver (if required) and Mobile Phone Manager (see the Communication with PC question).
2. In Windows Explorer, open "Siemens Device -> \Data -> Java -> Jam -> Games" (or "Applications", if that's the case).
3. Create a new folder there with the name you want the application to have (e.g. "Siemens 3D Rally", without the quotes).
4. Copy the program's .JAR and .JAD (the latter is not always required for the program to run) files into the new folder. The program will now be accessible from the Games or Applications menu item in your phone.
->Increased video recording (not for C65)
The SL/CX/M/S65 (with software version 12 or newer) can record more than 30 seconds of video (this limitation is to ensure Video MMS compatibility). However, changing the MMS and video settings can extend the video recording time a lot.
1. Go to Messages -> Message Setup -> MMS setup -> User settings.
2. There, change all size indication values to 000 kB and "Lim.".
3. In camera mode, switch from photo to video recording, and go to "Options -> Settings".
4. Change Recording time to "MMS compatib.".
Now you can record longer videos.
Note two things: the maximum recording time shown on display is not very reliable, and to be able to add images and other items to MMS messages you'll need to reset the size indications to at least "Warn.".

->Playback of 3GP videos
For C65:
Open the memory assistant (Menu ->Setup ->Phone setup ->Memory assis.) and open the 3GP file you want to play.
This has only been reported to work with firmware 33.
All other phones; just open the file normally.

->Removing camera sound
It can not be done without resorting to changes on the phone's protected area, and, as such, discussions about removing the camera sound are forbidden by Forum Rule no. 11. Don't ask about it here at Club-Siemens.
->Things that reduce standby time- Extreme temperatures
- Bluetooth function (if implemented)
- Cell Broadcast
- QuickPic Camera (Mobile Camera, even if it is not used but only connected)
- Infrared interface (if implemented)
- Silent Alert / Vibrator Alarm
- Network - Fast Search
- GPRS
- Illumination (can be adjusted by steps of 10 %, the lower the value in % is, the less the standby time will be reduced)
- When a data cable is connected, the battery will be empty within some hours even if there is no active data connection at all
- If the screen saver is set as clock, the standby time reduces 20%.
- SL65: Opening & closing the slider causes switching on the backlighting. One minute (4 times open & close) reduces the standby time by half an hour
- Continuous animated screensaver decreases standby time dramatically ! (e.g. CX65/M65: O2 screensaver without energy saving functionality (SW<9) standby time < 20h !)
- Camera: activating the view finder for 1 min reduces the standby time by one hour.
- SX1: Active applications in background (control by long press of "menu" key)
- 65 generation: SW version 25 could improve the standby-time / energy performance.
- Whenever a function is used, e.g. making a call, operating the menu, SMS messaging, games etc., energy is used and consequently the standby time decreases.
Another advice: when the battery symbol on the display shows empty for the first time, there are still several hours of standby time left.

->What should I do when I cannot switch on my mobile phone after an Internet update? Source
The mobile phone does not switch on if the Internet update has not been carried out completely.
The reasons for this can be as follows:
- The battery of the mobile phone was not charged sufficiently.
- The data cable was plugged off during the update process.
- The computer had an interruption in power supply.
In this case, try again to update the mobile phone. Please pay attention to the following instructions:
First, charge the battery of the mobile phone for more than 12 hours. In this case, the charging symbol will not appear in the display of the mobile!
Connect the mobile phone to the PC via data cable and restart the update tool.
Follow the instructions of the update tool correctly!
The update tool will start and the update will be carried out again.
Update process has to be carried out completely (do not interrupt!).
Now, the mobile phone is updated. You can switch it on again and it will work without restrictions.
If the update tool cannot work properly due to PC problems or if the update process cannot be carried out for any other reasons, please let a repair shop reboot the mobile phone. It will then work again.
